Thank you for wanting to dive further into the sisterhood and what we believe and hold dear.

Above all else, our aim is be hope-bearers in the world. We desire to empower women to carry life-giving hope into their own homes, work places, and communities, as well as around the globe.

Our mission (and name) is anchored in Ephesians 3:14-21. While all translations of this verse speak to us, The Message translation is particularly fresh in our hearts:

14-19 My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

20-21 God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.
Glory to God in the church!
Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!
Glory down all the generations!
Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!

We value unity, growth, humility, encouragement, and generosity. These direct us to highlight sisters (and a few brothers) in Christ as a way of inspiring women to walk through the doors God has opened. We invite guests on our podcast, blog and retreat who live out their faith through various expressions and traditions and with different nuanced conclusions on the details of Scripture. Highlighting these voices with humility and encouragement is the spirit of sisterhood and we believe reflects the diverse body of Christ. Our invitation is not a blanket endorsement of all statements by guests through our channels or others, rather an effort to promote unity among the Church. The Open Door Sisterhood does not take “stances” on issues, but instead invites conversation between people who may hold varying views and opinions in the Church (regardless of what we personally believe). We are also not trying to be journalists, depicting both sides of an issue or question.  We simply want women to share their stories of walking through God’s open doors.

What we do stand behind are the tenets of The Apostle’s Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
